Well, I've finally done it!

Can you believe it?

In fact, they've been done for about three weeks now, but I was so burnt out I didn't want to blog about it. Take it from me: Never knit three sweaters from the same pattern. It gets so incredibly boring, especially because I had to frog and start over several times during the first sweater! Andrew, Geoffrey, and Kevin all now have lovely sweaters that I hope will fit them this fall when the weather turns cold again. Now that spring is half over, it's summer in Ohio and it's only really chilly enough for a boy to want a sweater after dark.

The Nitty Gritty:
Pattern: River Forest Gansey by JoLene M. Treace
Book: Handknit Holidays: Knitting Year-Round for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Winter Solstice by Melanie Falick
Sizes: Kevin's and Geoffrey's are both 29." I shortened Kevin's to fit his slightly shorter torso & arms. Kevin's a size 5 and Geoffrey is a size 6 or 7. Andrew's sweater is the 47" size. He's a 46" long in shirts.

Yarn: All are Brown Sheep Nature Spun Worsted in Burnt Sienna (dark reddish-orange), Spring Break (lime green), and Pepper (black).
Needles: I used KnitPicks interchangeables, US5 on cuffs and US7 on the bodies. Although now looking at it again, I think I need to reknit Andrew's collar with a smaller needle. Either I started with too many stitches or I forgot to switch to a smaller needle. It's pretty stretched out. His sweater turned out huge, but I'm going to pretend it's not too bad. He likes it the way it is, which is mighty good because I just can't do it again.

PS:
Next fall & winter I'm knitting them vests. All of from different pattern. And the really great thing about vests? They don't have sleeves. No vest does. Isn't that great? A vest is a wonderful invention. Kudos to whomever invented a vest. Brilliant. Do you think she had lots of small boys and got tired of knitting sleeves?

It isn't my favorite color green, but doesn't it do great things for his eyes? He chose the color, by the way. Perhaps I should let him choose his own clothes more often?

My boys, big and small, might need these sweaters when we drive North in July. We're going to try and drive all the way up to Nova Scotia via Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine and it does get chilly in the evenings up there, from what I've read. Anne of Green Gables always had a sweater or wrap on in the evenings, so I think I should come similarly prepared! And I completely plan on crashing Marilla's knitting circle while I'm there.

Now that these sweaters are finished I 'm officially cleared (By who? By me, of course.) to do something for myself, and that something is Flower Child (see below, on my last post, which was a very long time ago). Somehow I ended up with yarn from two different color runs, but I'm going to make it work by using the 2nd solor run only in specific panels. It'll work, right? It'll be OK! Now I just have to decide what size to make, as I'm on a shrinking trend currently. Nothing drastic, just attempting to get a little healthier.
