So, Monday . . .
Was a brownie day! Yes! The Chocolate Gods were smiling! My boys helped make brownies, which was very fun. They put milk chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips, and heath tidbits in them. They are delicious.
The well was started on Monday. They got down a good ways, then left a rig sitting in the yard. It will be in the yard until it's done sometime Thursday or Friday. I took this photo after reading all about Dyngus Day on Jacki's blog. I thought it would be appropriate to post my own personal Dyngus Day photo.
Tuesday . . .
Was a great day. We woke up bright and early, had breakfast, and set off for Newport, KY. The aquarium there is really fun. It's not too big--you can get through it in a couple of hours--but not too small either. Sharks, turtles, snakes, fishes, all fun to look at and read about. They have a shark petting tank and a few-week-old baby penguin who's very cute & still fuzzy. If you go though, remember that half the world is on Spring break and it's going to be busy. We've been on a Tuesday before, when we practically have the whole place to ourselves. Kevin's pretty sensitive to commotion, loud noises and lots of people scare him, so he stuck very close. Geoffrey, on the other hand, kept darting away. My nerves were a bit frazzled by the time we left.
We visited some friends of Andrew's parents while we were in the area, and came home with home-grown honey. Have you ever tasted the difference between store brand honey and home grown/farmer's market honey? You should. You can practically taste the flowers it's so fragrant and tasty. On the way home I almost finished two of Kevin's socks. I decided to make the boys two pairs each of the Bamboo socks. Spring is here and they need socks that breathe, because their rain boots don't!
Wednesday . . .
Today I got up and found coffee waiting for me. Did I mention I married a fabulous guy? I did. I rallied to go take a shower at the YMCA. I swear to you, I will not go back there unless I absolutely have to. As it is, we have the membership almost entirely for the kids' swimming lessons. In the women's locker room, I encountered a very nice but dangerously overweight elderly lady who insisted on holding a conversation with me while she was stark naked. I headed for the shower at my very first opportunity. She was still there when I got back, and I won't share the conversation with you, but I will share that it sent me running for the door as soon as I was dressed. I hadn't combed my hair yet even (well, I forgot to bring a comb with me). The day can only improve from here! I visited the Needling Yarn and purchased some things for my Spring Swap and my Earth Day Yarn Swap. It took forever to come to some decisions. I just need to add some nifty tidbits to each package and off they will go!
Speaking of swapping, I received this in the mail!
It's been on my wish list for a while, but I hadn't snapped it up. Thank you Secret Spring Swapper! I eat up books like this. I love learning things about the craft I've adopted! It's a beautiful book packed full of interesting facts, history, and even historical patterns. The photos are outstanding, and they make a history book so interesting. I love it. It was my bed time story last night! Even the boys liked looking at some of the photos. People have knitted some strange things! Wouldn't you think a knitted snowsuit would be a bit . . . porous? And a knitted bathing suit a bit . . . saggy when wet?
Speaking of knitting off things: I'm thinking of doing some math today. There's a contest on the Blue Moon Sock Club blog, about coming up with the yardage needed for knitting strange things. I'm thinking of a well-cozy. How much STR do I need to knit a cozy for a 250-ft well that is 6 in. in diameter if I knit STR lightweight at 9 stitches to the inch and 13 rows per inch ons size 1 needles? How many stitches and rows will I end up with? How many skeins do I need? I'll let you know what I come up with!
